Blairsville has been nominated to the Young Preservationist Association of Pittsburgh's Top Ten Preservation Opportunities in the Pittsburgh Area!  The mission of the YPA of Pittsburgh is the participation of young people in the preservation of historic resources, to ignite a new historic preservation movement in Southwestern, Pa.   Taken into consideration were Blairsville's Historicical and Architectural significance, the high degree of community involvement, based on a very active Main Street Program, among other civic, government and business agencies, the threats to the downtown due to empty storefronts, and a few buildings in dire need of attention.  Blairsville is also entering the planning phase for an Elm Street Program.  This, as well as Blairsville's position as a hub town on the Conemaugh River and Rt. 22, Its hopes to become a bike trailtown in the growing regional  trail system and a gateway to the Laurel Highlands,  are just part of the plan for its revitalization, along with the huge potential of the relationships being forged by the Main Street Manager with local, county, state and federal agencies and business organizations.
On May 16th, YPA will celebrate Preservation Month, from 6-8 p.m., with special guest, Rick Cebak, at the New Hazlett Theater, in Allegheny Square East, when we will find out if Blairsville has been nominated the #1 Preservation Opportunity in the Pittsburgh area!  To find out more, or to join us at the celebration, call 724-459-8588 or This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it  for more information.
