Blairsville Cemetery Offering Fresh Evergreen Blankets - Winter Seasonal Remembrance - Blairsville, PA, October 30, 2008 – Traditional Evergreen Blankets will be sold this winter for the first time in more than a dozen years by the Blairsville Cemetery, one of the country’s oldest, rural community cemeteries. The Evergreen Blanket, sometimes referred to as a grave blanket, is a flat, 3’x 6” rectangle arrangement of fresh evergreen boughs, featuring a red or burgundy bow. A long-standing custom in many of the nation’s older cemeteries, Evergreen Blankets are placed a top the grave sites of loved ones during the winter months, spanning December through the end of January 2009. The beautiful evergreen seasonal remembrance is placed on grave sites in the beginning of December, and anchored down before the ground freezes. Orders to purchase the Evergreen Blankets must be received by Monday, December 10, for the winter 2008-2009 season. The Blankets will be placed on the grave sites by Blairsville Cemetery staff, and removed and disposed of at the end of January 2009. Evergreen Blankets are priced at $50.00 a piece. Evergreen Grave Pillows are also available, for a price to be determined based on demand.
